Positive results for three wines from the winery at the prestigious wine competition organized by Civiltà del bere.
The ninth edition of WOW! The Italian Wine Competition, the acclaimed wine competition organized by Italian wine magazine Civiltà del bere, has come to a close. The competition celebrates the excellence and authenticity of Italian wines through rigorous blind-tasting sessions.
This year’s edition brought together a highly qualified jury of internationally renowned critics, journalists and sommeliers, who evaluated hundreds of entries based not only on their intrinsic quality, but above all on the so-called “T Factor” (Taste, Terroir, Tradition). This distinctive criterion was introduced to assess how faithfully a wine reflects its place of origin, the character of its land and the winemaking tradition to which it belongs. Against this backdrop, Col Sandago achieved an excellent overall result, confirming the consistent quality and strong territorial identity of its wines, with three awards presented to three of the winery’s most distinctive labels:
“Wildbacher Metodo Classico” V.S.Q. – Extra Brut– V.S.Q. – Rosé 2019 – Silver Medal with a Typicity Score of 8/10. An elegant and surprising vintage sparkling wine, this cuvée expresses the deepest identity of Col Sandago. Wildbacher, a noble grape variety originally from Styria, has found its ideal home among the hills of Susegana. Made exclusively from Wildbacher grapes using the traditional method, it displays a delicate rosé hue. The aromatic profile is broad, fruity and floral, with notes of wild berries and bread crust. On the palate, it is dry and harmonious, offering outstanding balance and a long, persistent finish.
“Vigna del Cuc” – Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. – Brut – Bronze Medal with a Typicity Score of 7/10. A historic wine of the estate, this sparkling wine made exclusively from Glera grapes comes from the winery’s namesake vineyard. It features a brilliant pale straw-yellow colour and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is distinctly fruity, with pronounced aromas of green apple. Dry, harmonious and finely savoury on the palate, it combines freshness and balance with a pleasant, lingering finish, making it a highly enjoyable Brut.
“Undici” – Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. – Rive di Collalto – Dry – Bronze Medal with a Typicity Score of 7/10. Made from Glera grapes grown on steeply sloping vineyards, this Dry-style sparkling wine combines softness and freshness, with a fine perlage and delicate floral and fruity notes of apple and pear. The palate is velvety and well balanced by lively acidity. An ideal choice for an aperitif.
Col Sandago continues along the path it has forged, combining meticulous care and attention to terroir with a refined ability to interpret its character in the cellar. This unique approach, bringing together grape variety and place of origin, has earned the winery new accolades at the WOW! competition by Civiltà del Bere.
