…If that very heart of wine-making territory called Col Sandago was my property, I wouldn’t have any doubt. I would remove the vines, all of them, for making Prosecco, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and so on, and would leave, due to its incredible excellence, the vine of Wildbacher. For the fact that you own such a heart, I confess to feel the utmost envy...

The story comes from far...
Col Sandago and
the Wildbacher
Despite its harsh name, here it becomes alive, open to sociality and welcoming.
Winery
The Wildbacher is now the distinctive wine of Col Sandago. Here, the surrounding landscape, with its mild hillsides and steep slopes, offers the ideal environment for its development.
Protected by the Pre-Alps, with perfect exposure, the vineyards have the right elevation, which altogether create the ideal microclimate for the Wildbacher. It is naturally frost-proof, and the milder climate has weakened its wildness, making it softer and more balanced.
Vine and
passion
Such a difficult vine variety can give a return in quality, but never in quantity.
Out of the total vineyard surface in Col Sandago, 3.5 hectares are entirely dedicated to Wildbacher. A small but perfectly exposed piece of land, which was object of careful selection.
Such care is reflected in 65 q per hectare of grapes production, whose yield is maximized at 45 hl of wine. The vine is grown using the Double Upside-down or the Spurred Cordon systems, that are suitable for dry or medium-fertility soils.
In addition to limited spreading, what makes the Wildbacher rare is its bunch, namely a small, compact and seed-rich bunch.
Harvesting
and waiting
An Austrian variety enriched by the soft shades of Treviso’s hills.
The grapes are harvested manually, well into autumn. It is a practice that repeats year after year with the same attention to details.
An occasion when our commitment in the vineyard is joined by the curiosity to disclose the aromas and tastes of the upcoming vintage.
Time
and wood
Mean to those who consider it an average wine, but unexpectedly generous to those who understand and follow it.
Wildbacher IGT dei Colli Trevigiani requires time and dedication to reach its full potential.
After at least three years of aging in oak barrels, that are specifically designed to preserve its aromatic harmony, the wine undergoes further aging in bottles for 12 months.
Only at that moment the Wildbacher reveals itself, offering unique aromas and tastes, which speak of the soul of the Col Sandago vineyards.
Expressions of
Wildbacher
A rare diamond having thousand facetings, which can be tasted in its different expressions.
